At this point, it looks like we will likely go w/ the new suggestion for the drop-and-draft process.
However, we haven't really discussed whether we should allow some trading to occur before that process -- other than the one trade I intended to make to help out the MikeHawks team a little more.
I'm leaning toward allowing trade activity as soon as we have the league set up in Yahoo w/ all the rosters submitted, instead of waiting til after the draft like last year. Apparently, we can allow trade activity while keeping the add/drop function locked (to prevent mistakes, etc.) until draft time.
If we do this, we'll probably just have everyone submit their list of player drops via PM to a designated account by a designated deadline -- probably a few days before the draft -- and then publicly announce all the player drops before having everyone do the actual drops shortly before draft time.
What do you guys think?

I have no trouble with pre-draft trading. I would assume that each team will declare its "Keepers" which will determine draft [picks available and then trading could commence. I suggest this simply because the picks themselves may be valuable trade items.

I wasn't really thinking about trading picks, but about trading players. ;D
Do people actually want to do trading of draft picks too? That would be a bit trickier to do since Yahoo doesn't provide for that. If that's desired, I guess we could have Brian set up a sub-section in this forum for handling trade transactions that involve draft picks.

I'd rather we didn't trade picks - as you noted it could get extremely messy. Nevertheless the question remains - Is the draft order and picks determined before or after the trade deadline?

At this point, I imagine we will probably do a fast draft allowing maybe 3-min per pick, instead of a slow draft, since we can't seem to agree on a good slow draft format and it's getting a bit late now to go "slow". So I'm not sure we really need to have a trade deadline, especially if we're not gonna allow trading of picks.
I guess we could maybe lock down the trade function at the player drop deadline until the point when the designated players have actually been dropped. That would probably reduce potential problems/mistakes/misunderstandings involving such players. So I guess we could make the player drop deadline also a pre-draft trade deadline for that purpose.

"Is the draft order and picks determined before or after the trade deadline?"
To avoid this potential problem, we should probably require that all pre-draft trades have the same quantity of players on both sides.

To avoid this potential problem, we should probably require that all pre-draft trades have the same quantity of players on both sides. If we make the player drop deadline (for submitting the PM on this forum) also the pre-draft trade deadline, then we shouldn't have any real problem w/ this. We can just have a temporary "no trade" period between that deadline and the draft itself -- since the trade function can be locked. But yeah, if people really want to allow trades during that short period, then trades should probably be required to have equal numbers on both sides so that we avoid the issue of how that might affect draft order and picks.
