Before signing up these are the basics you will need to know about the league.

STAT MODIFIERS
The points system used for offense (eXtrapolated Runs) is explained at this site. And the points system for pitching was designed w/ its core component based on the idea of run prevention (ie. IP - R) in order to roughly match the offense and offer a good balance against the offensive points system. While at first glance the whole system may seem rather convoluted, we have successfully used it for 4 straight years yielding some very tight, well balanced, competitive races.

NOTABLE LEAGUE SETTINGS and LIMITS (for Yahoo in-season play)
IP Limit = 1450 (for a reasonable simulation of a full MLB season of pitching)
Games Limit (for each batting position) = 162
NOTE: Despite the above set IP and Games limits, Yahoo normally allows teams to exceed each limit for one final day, if the limit has not already been reached before the start of that day.
Waiver Wait Time (before dropped player passes waivers) = 2 days
Transaction Limit (for player adds off waiver wire) =none 100 (effective starting 2007)
Trade Review (by league vote in Yahoo) =2 1 day (effective starting 2007)
NOTE: Please note that Yahoo means 1 complete calendar day, not just a 24-hour period. So for instance, a trade that's posted on Yahoo at 12:01am PST on Monday won't actually pass until some time during the (early) morning on Wednesday, and the players won't actually show up on their new teams' rosters until Thursday.
Trade Deadline = last allowable date in Yahoo, usually in the final week of August
Roster Changes = Daily w/ active lineup changes upto ~5min before game time in Yahoo (as usual)
Position Eligibility Criteria (unchangeable): Batters need either 5 Games Started or 10 Games Played at a position to gain eligibility. Pitchers need 3 Starts to gain SP eligibility, 5 Relief Appearances to gain RP eligibility. FYI, Yahoo provides a countdown tool for player's position eligibility for your convenience.

NEED TO KNOW about Keeper Status and FA Draft
Rather than picking a set amount of players to keep each year, you will normally retain your complete roster with exception of those players that officially become free agents in the MLB. Those players will be placed back into the draft pool for the next, upcoming FA draft. You will also be allowed to drop additional players into the FA pool as part of the overall FA draft process during the offseason.
At the start of each new (pre)season, a FA draft will be used to fill whatever empty roster spots you have. The number of empty roster spots (out of 25) you have at a certain to-be-set deadline will determine the number of players you can draft along w/ the particular draft picks you will receive. For instance, if you have 4 empty roster spots to fill, you will only be given draft picks in 4 rounds.
The first round of the drafting order will be set, based on rankings of the previous year, with the last place team getting first pick and the 1st place team getting last. the oder would be like this = 6th / 5th / 4th / 3rd / 2nd / 1st / 1st / 2nd/ 3rd ... and so on.
NOTE: The draft process has been changed effective starting 2006. Please check the most recent draft process announcement in the rules section for details.
NOTE 2: The draft process was slightly adjusted to accommodate league expansion heading into the 2007 season. This adjustment is only intended for 2007, and we expect to return to the previous unadjusted process for future years. Please see this announcement for details.

TEAMS AVAILABLE
You may find vacant teams needing new owners labeled as such over in the Offseason Roster section.
If you're interested and all vacancies are already filled, please feel free to let us know so we can get back to you later if/when a vacant team opens up in the future.
You may post your interest over in the General Discussions section and/or send an email to the Commish at mandnwong@yahoo.com. Please also register for a new account on this forum site as part of the process.
FYI, the eligible positions of players listed in the offseason rosters may vary slightly from current actual eligibility in Yahoo, as the listings are based on last year (w/ needed adjustments as I spot them). And once you claim a team, you may rename it to whatever you want though please do not rename your team during the regular active season itself as that can be very confusing to everyone else.

IMPORTANT
Make sure this league is for you before joining. Don't just sign up and then start griping that we do not give points for RBI's or pitching K's or something else.
The current FA draft process has the draft split into 2 parts: "slow" portion followed by the "live" draft. The "slow" draft, where the early draft rounds go, will typically start right after the player drops deadline as soon as the draft order can be set. Though a date/time may not be set yet for the "live" draft, it will be held before the start of the baseball season. A poll is usually conducted for a consensus choice of when to schedule the "live" draft. Please see the current year's FA Draft Process announcement for more details.
